              JV Basketball Trip to Aberdeen

              Picture
              Who are we housing with?

Housing lists will be distributed after receiving them from the Athletic Director at ISA. You can expect this list one week before departing to Aberdeen. If your student-athlete has any food restrictions or allergies please notify the ISS Athletic Director so the hosting families can make adjustments for their meals. The host families will also provide the bedding for your athletes.

Is more than one girl or boy staying with each host family?

Usually there are at least two ISS students together. Aberdeen does a fantastic job about getting family volunteers and they generally take 2+ students. This is generally what happens and you will find out more information when you find out your housing assignments. Please note, we ask our students to bring a small present for their host families (i.e. Norwegian Chocolate, Troll Doll, etc.).

How will we get around/transportations while in Aberdeen?

Your host families will get you to and from where you need to go. If something is set up for the team, the host families will be notified and arrangements will be made to ensure your arrival and departure from the event.

Who are the other teams that come for the tournament?

In the past there were 3 or 4 teams. It continues to grow and more teams return to Aberdeen to compete. Egham, and American School of London come up from the south. There are also teams from Turkey and Portugal who have made it up and of course International School of Aberdeen, as well as a local club from within their community.

How is the tournament set up?

Generally the tournament is held early February, dates will be announced on the Sports Tournaments Home. This is open for both the JV Girls and JV Boys. The tournament is a U15 tournament, meaning if must have been under the age of 15 as of September 1st from the start of the school year.

              The TOURNAMENT: February 2011

Round Robin Tournament - Trophy for First Place, Medals First through Third

There will be NO ZONE DEFENSE during the tournament.

8 minute quarters with a running clock except for the final 2 minutes (If we are running behind we will only stop the clock for the final quarter.) of each quarter.
Each team will get 3 time-outs (2 minutes) per game.  Only two may be used per half.

In the case of a tie we will have an additional 2 minutes to play.

The boys will play each other once.  At the conclusion of the games any teams with identical records will have their place decided by head to head records.  If still a tie a point differential will be used and after that we will arm wrestle.

Any player receiving two technicals on Friday will not play the rest of the day. If the same player receives a technical on Saturday they will not participate for the rest of the tournament.  I would be very surprised if this happened.

Girls will play each opponent once and on Saturday the two top teams will be playing for first.  3rd and 4th will battle for the bronze medal.

              When will the tournament happen?

The tournament will be held Friday with the first game starting at 0800 and the last game ending around 1800 and Saturday it will last between 0800 and 1400. There will be a more detailed schedule the week of the tournament. When specific game times of our teams are known they will be posted right here.

Are we all on the same flight, sitting together?

The students and coaches are on the same flight and generally sit in the same area. Please remember we are all guests to ISA and ambassadors of ISS. Respect others in all situations, whether it be Bus, Home, Gymnasium or Airport. Listen to instructions and follow the directions of the designated chaperones.

              Are ALL meals provided?

Meals are provided by the hosting family. There will also be food for sale at the kiosk during the tournament just incase you need an extra bit of energy for the tournament. Please remember to get in a piece of fruit after every game to help you recover and liquids condusive to sports (this includes powerade, gatorade, water and juices NOT soda, energy drinks or other carbonated beverages).

What are we going to do with our free time?

Free time is spent with your host families. Sometimes a dance will be held on Friday night. You are expected to get your boogie on. If there is anything organized outside of what the families have to offer or the school this will be communicated before leaving on the trip.

If my parent is coming to Aberdeen can I stay with them and spend my free time with them?

We are very happy to have parents join us in Aberdeen for the tournament, but students are not allowed to stay with them. On these trips we are promoting cross socialization with players from the other schools and our own.

              When are we leaving?

We are leaving directly after school on Thursday. On Thursday morning you are to bring your bags (please see how to pack for trips) to the Athletic Director´s office. There you will leave your bag and present the adult waiting for you with your passport. At the end of the school day you are to report straight to the Athletic Director´s office to meet the rest of your team, your chaperone and walk out to the bus together.

              When are we coming back?

You will be returning Sunday afternoon. Your parents are expected to pick you up at the airport. Please see the “Aberdeen Trip Information” on EdLine for more specific details about times and flight numbers.
