              ISS Athletic Departments Mission Statement

ISS athletics enable students, coaches and supporters to develop a life-long connection with health and wellness, enjoy exercise, embrace adversity and competition, and handle both victory and defeat with humility and grace.

              Athletic Department Philosophy

The ISS athletic program is an intrinsic part of the total curriculum, providing opportunities in sportsmanship, teamwork, competition, fun and self-discipline.

Athletics helps students develop a healthy self-concept and body. Athletic events add to school spirit and pride.

Whilst striving to create teams as competitive as possible, the primary objective is to help student-athletes acquire important skills that will help them to be successful now and into their adult lives, rather than fostering a “win at all cost” attitude.

Participation is an essential link in the system. Every effort is made to provide athletic experiences (games, practices and tournaments) for as many students as possible. All athletes can expect to receive at least some participation in each game.

ISS coaches strive to be positive role models for their teams by displaying knowledge, strong leadership and ethical behavior.

The following traits are essential for ISS student athletes to possess:

Academic Achievement, Teamwork, Commitment, Self-Discipline, Sportsmanship, Competitive Spirit, Responsibility, Work Ethic, Self-Confidence, Accountability, Respect, Leadership, Ability to Communicate

Participation in extra-curricular activities is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities. The interscholastic athletic program adheres to the ISS Philosophy, Mission and Vision and all school policies, rules, and regulations.

ISS coordinates its schedules so students can experience both sports and other extra-curricular activities, such as drama. The athletic year is split up into three seasons: Fall, Winter and Spring.  Generally the season will end with the NECIS tournaments and the following season will start one week after the tournament.
