              Traveling Student-Athlete FAQ

Your student-athlete is going to be representing ISS at a competitive international tournament. We are a NECIS school and will usually go to six tournaments a year. One of the tournaments we go to is with the cooperating school of International School of Aberdeen. Allowing your student to travel with his/her team is a great opportunity for them to socially interact with coaches and students in a different setting. Along with opportunities there are always questions, below the athletic department will try to answer some of those. If you have additional questions please email us and we can answer them for all to see. Thanks for your help and looking forward to traveling with you student-athlete.

              How are traveling teams selected?

NECIS is open to all students from grades 7-12. The teams are divided up into levels determined by age: Under 16 (Junior Varsity) and Under 19 (Varsity). The student's level is determined by his or her age on the 1st of September of the academic year. Since NECIS is a competitive sports program, providing tournaments in which international schools meet, team numbers are restricted.

Therefore, students who wish to participate must compete for selection to the ISS teams. After returning the "Intent to Travel" form, coaches use the following criteria to guide them when making their final selection:
              • Commitment
              • Teamwork
              • Attendance - Students must be at 75% of scheduled practices.

The NECIS tournaments restrict the size of teams for entry into the tournaments.

              • Varsity Football teams: 15
              • U15 Girls Football: 12
              • Volleyball teams: 12
              • Basketball: 12
              • Swimming: TBD (NECIS maximum is 60)
              • Track and Field: TBD (NECIS maximum is 60)
              • Rugby: 12

Once the tournament team has been selected all athletes are still allowed to attend practice. If local competition has ended and the tournament is all there is left, it is up to the discretion of the coach to allow athletes at practice or not.

              Picture
Breakfast will be included in the stay at the designated hotel. Lunches during competition days are not covered, if the tournament host will provide a lunch, the cost will be part of the travel bill that you have received from the ISS Business Office.

For each day away you can estimate about 10 Euro per lunch and 15 Euro per dinner. One dinner will always be covered within the tournament costs, it is the team social which takes place the night before the final day of competition.

Again, ALL social costs will be covered in the tournament bill you have received form the school. If your student-athlete wants any snacks, souvenirs or a tournament shirt (about 15 Euro) they will need to have money for that. An estimated amount to bring would be 105 Euro.

***All amounts are in Euro, please convert them to the country currency we are visiting, and adjust amounts according to travel schedule. Example of a Travel Schedule:

              Travel Day 1:Lunch (10), Dinner (15), Snacks (5)
